12/4/2019 0 Comments Summary synthesis My Interdisciplinary studies degree title is “Mental Health.” I created this program because it is a combination of the two majors that really interest me and that I would like to learn more about, Health and Psychology. No other program here at Plymouth State is right for me because nothing teaches me the variety of content that I am interested in. Interdisciplinary Studies provides me with the opportunity to combine the best of several subject areas around a single theme and allow me to experience college in a way that interests and inspires me. For my Research Article, I focus on stress in college students and how to reduce it. I decided to research this topic because I am a college student that understands the stress we go through during our 4 years of school. Stress is something that most everyone goes through at some point in their life. A lot of college students are stressed and they don’t know how to get rid of it so most students just deal with it but dealing with this stress for a long period of time can hurt your body and your mental health so it is good to try and reduce it. During this project I was about to research and learn a few different techniques for college students to reduce their stress. These techniques are Meditation, Yoga, Planning/Scheduling and Leisurely activities. This research projects contributed to my education because it widened my knowledge of stress and how it can really affect our mental health. For my Applied Project, I decided to use the information I learned during my research project and put it towards something that will help people. I created a podcast that is directed for college students to help them reduce their stress. The podcast is called "Stress Reducing Techniques for College Students." In this podcast I talked about the different stressors in college students' lives such as juggling classes, projects, work, friends, family, ect. Chronic stress increases the risk of developing depression and anxiety in some people. I chose this topic for this project because I wanted to share some easy, cheap ways college students can reduce their stress. This projects contributes to my education because I am working towards a future where I will help children with mental illnesses. Completing my Interdisciplinary Studies degree has really taught me so much, from new skills to new information and research that will help me with my future career in Mental Health. The IDS program teaches us to look at majors on a deeper level and see where valuable connections can be made. I am very happy that I chose to be an Interdisciplinary Studies major.

12/3/2019 0 Comments my pln portfolio My PLN Plan is a Twitter account I made about a year ago. With this account I am able to follow other people's accounts that concentrate on mental health. I find mental health to be something that affects everyone in different ways. Almost everyone knows someone with a mental illness or someone that has been affected by mental health. There is a big stigma on mental health when there shouldn't be. Mental illness is much more common than most people think. With this PLN Plan I am able to tweet different things I have learned and I find important. I am also able to retweet other people's tweets that I find interesting and want to share with my followers. I want people to be aware that mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of and that no one is alone. Being human can be hard. We all have these things called thoughts and emotions that have a grip on our well-being. The triggers can have a negative effect on our behavior, mental and physical health. Mental health stigma is a huge barrier on why many people don’t seek help but I want to change that. With my twitter account on mental health I retweet articles on mental health and different ways people can get help. When it comes to my own tweets I like to post encouraging quotes about mental illness that let people know that it’s okay and that their not alone. My PLN plan is very important to me because it has really helped me concentrate on what I find important. It’s also a good way to get information out into the world and help make a difference in people’s lives. My PLN Plan has really helped me further my education. It has helped me learn different ways to use social media, especially twitter. There are so many new ways to use twitter and different things you can do on it. One thing that I really enjoy about twitter is that someone all the way across the world can see what I post and I am able to see what they post. It's a great way to communicate and see other peoples views on mental health. My PLN Plan has also helped me further my education because it is an easy way for me to read new articles and studies that have come out. I plan to use this twitter for the rest of my college and work career, for it will help me in so many different ways. Below is one of the posts I have recently retweeted. The account is called “Mental Health American”. I found this post to be important and wanted my follower to see so that is why I retweeted it. This post talks about a day on December 16th at the New Hampshire Town Hall where there will be a meeting where people will come together to unite for mental health. At this meeting they will discuss solutions for America’s struggling with the mental health care system. Below is one of my tweets. I wanted to share this tweet with you guys because I find this quote to be important. You should always keep in mind that you never know how someone is feeling, so you should always be friendly. Even just showing a smile while you walk past someone could make their day, its as easy as that. Below is another one of my tweets. This tweet shows one great way to help reduce stress. As we all know our lives can be very busy and stressful. 12/2/2019 0 Comments The Role Music plays in Our LifeMusic is an important part of our life as it is a way of expressing our feelings as well as our emotions. Everyone uses music in a different way. Some people may use it while driving, working out, dancing, or singing. We also use music at events such as weddings, graduations, birthday parties and funerals. Music can represent many different emotions. Some people consider music as a way to escape from life and help reduce stress.
There are many different kinds of music in the world from religious songs to banging on a drum set. Music plays a more important role in our life than just being a source of entertainment. Music makes us creative, helps us express our emotions, and it can also help us learn in a pleasant way. In my life I use music for many different things. There's certain music I like to listen to in the car while driving and their certain music that helps me relax when I'm stressed or anxious. 12/2/2019 0 Comments My PLN PLan My PLN Plan is a Twitter account I made about a year ago where I follow many different accounts that concentrate on mental health.
